Barcelona Women Suffer First Defeat in 350 Days
Barcelona Women’s remarkable 45-match unbeaten run has finally come to an end.
The reigning Liga F champions were beaten 2–1 by Real Sociedad away from home on Sunday, suffering their first defeat in 350 days.
Barcelona made a perfect start to the match, taking the lead in the opening minute. However, they could not hold on to their advantage and conceded twice before half-time.
The champions were unable to find a way back into the game after the break, ending their extraordinary unbeaten streak.
Same Opponent, Same Ground
Interestingly, Barcelona’s previous defeat had also come against Real Sociedad at the same venue.
They lost 1–0 in a Liga F fixture there last November. Since then, Barcelona had gone 45 matches without defeat before Real Sociedad ended that remarkable run.
Barcelona enjoyed a spectacular campaign last season, losing just one match across all competitions. They went on to win all four major trophies available to them—the Champions League, Liga F, Copa de la Reina and Spanish Super Cup.
Their impressive form continued into the current campaign. Barcelona won their first 11 matches across all competitions before finally suffering defeat in their 12th game.
The 2–1 loss to Real Sociedad therefore marked more than just a setback. It brought an end to Barcelona Women’s 350-day unbeaten run and one of the longest undefeated streaks in their recent history.
