Pakistan produced a remarkable chase in Lahore to beat Sri Lanka by three wickets and win the ODI tri-series title.

Chasing 326 after Sri Lanka posted 325 for 8, Pakistan reached 331 for 7 in 48.3 overs. Fakhar Zaman led the way with a brilliant 127, while Saad Baig and Arafat Minhas made crucial contributions to complete one of Pakistan’s most memorable ODI victories.

The triumph was particularly significant because Pakistan had not won a tri-nation ODI series since 2008. It was also their first victory in an ODI tournament final on home soil.

1. First Major ODI Title Since 2017

Pakistan’s last major multi-nation ODI tournament title came at the 2017 Champions Trophy.

Since then, Pakistan have featured in two ODI World Cups and another Champions Trophy without reaching a semi-final. They also failed to reach the final of the 2018 and 2023 ODI Asia Cups.

They reached the final of the 2025 home tri-series but finished runners-up.

The victory over Sri Lanka in Lahore finally ended that long wait.

2. Pakistan’s First ODI Tournament Final Win at Home

This was Pakistan’s first-ever victory in an ODI tournament final on home soil.

They had previously lost finals of tri-nation tournaments in 1994, 2004 and 2025. Their fourth attempt finally brought the trophy home.

3. Fakhar Zaman’s Second ODI Final Century

Fakhar Zaman smashed 127 from 99 balls, with 11 fours and six sixes, to score his 12th ODI century.

It was also his second century in an ODI final.

His previous final hundred came in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India. Fakhar has now joined Saeed Anwar as the only Pakistan batters to score multiple centuries in ODI finals.

4. Fakhar’s Fourth Century in a 300+ Run Chase

Fakhar’s 127 was his fourth ODI century while chasing a target of 300 or more.

That is the most such centuries by a Pakistan batter. Babar Azam and Younis Khan have three each.

5. Pakistan Match India’s ODI Final Chase Record

Pakistan’s chase of 326 is jointly the highest successful run chase in an ODI tournament final.

India set the benchmark in the 2002 NatWest Series final at Lord’s, chasing 326 against England. Twenty-four years later, Pakistan matched that record against Sri Lanka.

Highest Successful Chases in ODI Finals

  • India vs England — 326, 2002

  • Pakistan vs Sri Lanka — 326, 2026

  • India vs Pakistan — 315, 1998

  • West Indies vs Pakistan — 285, 1993

  • New Zealand vs India — 277, 2005

6. Pakistan’s Second-Highest Successful Chase Against Sri Lanka

Pakistan’s biggest successful ODI chase against Sri Lanka remains their 345-run chase at the 2023 World Cup in Hyderabad.

The 326-run chase in Lahore is now their second-highest successful chase against Sri Lanka.

7. Record Aggregate of 656 Runs in an ODI Final

Sri Lanka scored 325 for 8 before Pakistan replied with 331 for 7.

The two teams therefore produced 656 runs, the highest aggregate in an ODI final.

The previous record was 651 runs, scored by India and England in the 2002 NatWest Series final at Lord’s.

8. Arafat Minhas Makes His Mark

Young all-rounder Arafat Minhas played a crucial role in Pakistan’s successful chase.

He smashed 61 from just 31 balls, including four sixes and three fours, to keep Pakistan ahead of the required rate when the chase was under pressure.

His contribution proved decisive alongside Hasan Nawaz, as the pair added 94 runs for the sixth wicket.

9. Pakistan’s Sixth-Highest ODI Chase

The 326-run chase is Pakistan’s sixth-highest successful run chase in ODI cricket. It is also their third-highest successful chase at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Fakhar’s century, Minhas’ explosive 61 and Shaheen Afridi’s winning six capped a memorable final and gave Pakistan a long-awaited ODI tri-series title.
