Winning trophies is ultimately what matters in football. But supporters also remember how a team reaches those trophies. That is where this Barcelona side stands out. Hansi Flick’s team are not just winning matches—they are producing goals at an extraordinary rate and turning every game into a spectacle.

Barcelona have scored 39 goals in nine La Liga matches and another nine in their first two Champions League games. That gives them 48 goals in just 11 matches, the highest tally among clubs from Europe’s top five leagues. They are averaging an astonishing 4.36 goals per game.

12 Goals More Than Bayern

No other team in Europe’s top five leagues comes close to Barcelona’s scoring numbers.

Bayern Munich are second with 36 goals in 10 matches. Freiburg and Brighton have scored 29 each in 10 games, while Manchester City have 28 in 11.

That means Barcelona have already scored 12 more goals than second-placed Bayern.

Flick’s priority, however, remains trophies. Yet the remarkable scoring rate has put Barcelona within touching distance of several historic benchmarks.

Torino hold the record for the most goals in a league season among Europe’s major leagues, scoring 125 in the 1947–48 campaign. Real Madrid followed with 121 in 2011–12 and 118 in 2014–15.

Barcelona themselves scored 116 league goals in the 2016–17 season.

On the Path to Another Historic Record

Barcelona’s club record for goals across all competitions in a single season stands at 190, achieved in 2011–12 during Lionel Messi’s extraordinary 73-goal campaign. The team reached that total in 64 matches.

Flick’s current side have already scored 48 goals in just 11 games, putting them well on the way to another remarkable season.

There is still a long way to go, and much tougher opposition awaits. But based on their current scoring form, one question is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid:

Who can stop this Barcelona?

PSG First, Then El Clasico

We may get an answer within the next week.

Barcelona face PSG away from home in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The French club are the reigning champions and will provide one of the toughest tests of the season.

Then, on October 25, Barcelona welcome arch-rivals Real Madrid to Camp Nou for the first El Clasico of the season.

Two huge matches could reveal whether Barcelona’s extraordinary attacking form can withstand Europe’s biggest challenges.

Six Games With Five or More Goals

Another statistic highlights just how explosive Barcelona have been.

They have scored at least five goals in six of their 11 matches this season. In other words, more than half of their games have seen the Catalan side score five or more times.

Their lowest scoring performance so far came against Athletic Bilbao—and even then, Barcelona scored twice.

The diversity of their goalscorers is equally impressive.

Eleven different Barcelona players have scored in La Liga this season. No team in Europe’s top five leagues has more individual league goalscorers, with Sevilla also having 11.

That means opponents cannot simply focus on shutting down one or two key players. Barcelona have demonstrated that goals can come from multiple areas of the pitch.

Flick Has One Clear Objective

Despite the remarkable goal tally and perfect league start, Flick remains focused on the bigger picture.

Barcelona have won all nine of their La Liga matches so far, scoring 39 goals in the process. The team in second place has scored only 19.

Their latest attacking display came against Real Betis, where Barcelona produced another dominant performance to win 5–2 away from home.

Yet Flick remained measured when asked about the team’s scoring exploits after the match.

“Good. But our goal is trophies. We want to win something bigger than this. That is why we play football.”

The goals, records and winning streak have made Barcelona one of the most exciting teams in Europe right now. But the biggest tests are coming.

PSG and Real Madrid now stand between Flick’s side and the answer to the question everyone is asking:

Can anyone stop this Barcelona?
