Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he has left Portugal’s national team camp, bringing an end to a day of speculation surrounding his absence from training and reports of growing tension with coach Jorge Jesus.

Ronaldo did not reveal the specific reason behind his decision. Instead, the Portugal captain said he would explain what happened “in due time.”

Portugal are preparing to face Denmark in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday, with kick-off scheduled for 12:45am Bangladesh time. The squad trained at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium ahead of the match.

Earlier in the day, reports emerged suggesting that Ronaldo had refused to train with the team and had also missed training sessions during the previous two days.

However, Jorge Jesus rejected those reports during his press conference.

“He did not refuse to train. That is not what happened. He will train today,” Jesus said.

“It is the fourth day, so he will train. He did not reject training. That is impossible. Do you really believe that? Cristiano is not like that.”

Despite the coach’s comments, Ronaldo was later seen leaving Parken Stadium in a Portuguese Football Federation vehicle. Portuguese newspaper A Bola published footage showing the 41-year-old forward departing the stadium.

Ronaldo subsequently confirmed on social media that he had decided to leave the national team camp following Jesus’ press conference and a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença.

He did not disclose the details of the disagreement, but said he would eventually explain why he made the decision.

“I will tell the Portuguese people, when the time is right, why I decided to leave the national team that I have always given everything for,” Ronaldo said.

“For now, it is time to wish Portugal and all my teammates the very best.”

Portugal are scheduled to play four matches during this international break and have already won their first two. Ronaldo’s departure ahead of the Denmark fixture has now added another layer of uncertainty to the team’s preparations.

For now, the exact reason behind Ronaldo’s decision remains undisclosed. The Portugal star has made it clear that he intends to explain the situation at a later stage.
