Greece 0-0 Germany
Greece held Germany to a goalless draw in the UEFA Nations League to move into second place in their group. Germany dominated possession and created numerous chances in Thessaloniki but failed to find the breakthrough.
The visitors enjoyed around 70 percent possession and registered 21 shots, yet could not score against a determined Greek defence.
Greece were looking to make amends after losing 1-0 to Germany in Augsburg in their previous meeting. They secured a valuable point at home by keeping the four-time world champions at bay.
Greece had one of the best chances early in the match when Georgios Masouras headed towards goal, but Germany goalkeeper Jonas Urbig made the save.
Germany gradually took control and thought they had opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when Jonathan Burkardt finished from a cross. However, a VAR review ruled out the goal after German midfielder Tom Bischof was found to have handled the ball in the build-up.
Germany increased the pressure after the break but were unable to break through the Greek defence. Despite dominating possession and taking 21 shots, they had to settle for a frustrating 0-0 draw.
The result was particularly valuable for Greece, who now have eight points from four matches and sit second in League A Group 2. The Netherlands are top with eight points after beating bottom side Serbia 2-1.
Germany remain third with five points from four matches. The result also means Jurgen Klopp’s start as Germany head coach has produced just one victory from his first four matches.
Germany’s quarter-final hopes are still in their own hands. Wins against Serbia and the Netherlands during the next international break could secure their place in the last eight.
Germany captain Florian Wirtz said his team created plenty of pressure but failed to score, while insisting that the competition is far from over.
