Lionel Scaloni is reportedly set to continue as Argentina’s head coach, with negotiations over a contract renewal said to have reached an advanced stage. According to Argentine sports media outlet Superdeportivo, the proposed agreement would initially run until 2028, with an option to extend it through the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Scaloni took charge of Argentina in 2018 and has since overseen one of the most successful periods in the national team’s history. Under his leadership, Argentina won the 2021 Copa América, the 2022 Finalissima and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Reports suggest that discussions with Argentine Football Association (AFA) president Claudio Tapia have helped move the renewal process forward. The remaining details reportedly include financial terms and other contractual conditions. However, an official announcement confirming that the agreement has been finalised should be verified before publication.

The possibility of keeping Scaloni through the 2030 World Cup is particularly significant because Argentina will co-host that tournament. Retaining the coach could provide continuity as the national team plans for its next generation of players and future international campaigns.

Argentina may also face selection concerns ahead of its scheduled November friendlies. Reports indicate that striker Lautaro Martínez could miss the matches because of a muscle injury. The availability of midfielder Leandro Paredes and right-back Nahuel Molina also requires clarification in light of reported suspensions.

Scaloni’s future is expected to become clearer once the AFA issues an official statement. Until then, the reported contract terms and timeline should be treated as unconfirmed details rather than a completed official announcement.
