Manuel Neuer Matches Messi and Müller’s Champions League Record
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has reached another milestone in his illustrious career, matching Lionel Messi and former Bayern teammate Thomas Müller for Champions League appearances.
Neuer reached 163 appearances in the competition during Bayern Munich’s match against Arsenal at the Allianz Arena. According to Opta statistics cited by Goal, the German goalkeeper moved into joint third place on the all-time list alongside Messi and Müller.
Only two players are ahead of the trio. Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo tops the rankings with 183 appearances, while Spanish goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas sits second with 177. Both spent significant periods of their Champions League careers at Real Madrid.
Neuer’s achievement also draws him level with Müller as the German player with the most appearances in Champions League history. His longevity and continued presence at the highest level of European football have helped him join an elite group of the competition’s most experienced players.
With Bayern still competing in Europe, Neuer could have further opportunities to climb the all-time appearances rankings.
