Manchester United’s difficult run continued as Michael Carrick’s side suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Como in the UEFA Champions League. Argentine midfielder Nico Paz scored twice to lead the Italian side to an impressive victory at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

United arrived in northern Italy hoping to end their winless run, but the visitors endured a difficult night against Cesc Fàbregas’s well-organised team. Como took the lead in the second minute when Paz found space and curled a superb finish into the net.

The hosts extended their advantage four minutes after the restart. Paz turned provider, setting up Anastasios Douvikas to make it 2-0 in the 49th minute. Eight minutes later, Paz capitalised on a mistake by United midfielder Carlos Baleba to score his second goal of the night and put Como firmly in control.

Como added a fourth in the 76th minute when defender Jacobo Ramón headed home from Kaiki Bruno’s cross. Substitute Joshua Zirkzee scored a late consolation for United, heading into stoppage time before finding the net in the 90th minute plus one, but his goal did little to change the outcome.

After the match, Carrick accepted responsibility for his team’s disappointing performance in comments reported by TNT Sports. The United manager also stressed his affection for the club, describing the display as unacceptable.

United’s problems have extended beyond the pitch, with defender Lisandro Martínez recently raising concerns about the club’s transfer strategy and recruitment process. The defeat to Como added further pressure as United’s winless run stretched to seven matches across all competitions.

For Como, the result was another significant achievement in their Champions League debut campaign. Paz’s two goals and assist helped the Italian side secure a memorable victory over one of Europe’s most decorated clubs.
